Keep Calm and Metal On: The New Ibis Ripmo AF Is Here to Prove That Alloy Still Rocks

Ibis has graced us with the shiny new Ripmo AF V3 and it comes in two well-thought-out and respectfully priced build kits to boot. We've been eagerly awaiting the launch of the new AF series since the updated carbon Ripmo came out last summer. The new alloy bikes are built to the same shape of the carbon counterpart and each build kit comes spec’d with a Rockshox Lyrik fork and Super Deluxe Select Plus shock. The base kit includes a Shimano Deore drivetrain and brake combo. The Eagle 90 build is SRAM-focused with the Transmission drivetrain and Maven base brakes rounding it. We've mostly seen the Ibis bikes come with Shimano, so it's exciting to see them mix it up a bit.

The new frame design is sweet! Shaped to match the carbon V3 Ripmo that was released last summer. If you love a straight top-tube, then you're in luck. They also have in-frame storage, which is always nice to see on an aluminum frame. Sizes small and medium come stock with mixed 27.5”/29” wheels. Sizes extra medium to extra large come with 29” wheels, although the adjustable flip chip enables more wheel options. Cable routing has also seen an improvement with updated ports on the frame that keep things neat. The colourways are also very clean, with the raw silver and metallic pink finishes.

Ibis’s tried and true DW-Link make this bike super floaty and playful. Our shop grom, Josh, had the opportunity to test it out before launch. Shout out to Ryan, the Loam Ranger, for that! Josh had a great time in Canmore feeling it out. He said it was rad, or sick or something along the lines of that. He was also able to hop on the bike and feel comfortable right away, without having to do too much fine-tuning on the fit. Check out the edit below for some shots of the bike and Josh in action. We’re pretty stoked to see the improvements and details put into this iteration of the Ripmo AF. Plus, it has everything you’d want out of a burly all-mountain bike - coil compatibility, UDH, 34.9mm seatpost, room for 220mm rotors and a great price point for the package.
